  • Today, the National Association of Wheat Growers elected Jamie Kress, an eastern Idaho farmer and former president of the Idaho Grain Producers Association, as president at a conference in Washington, DC with her term beginning Feb. 27; she manages an 8,500-acre dryland farm + advances local agriculture.  KXPI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Museum of Idaho will open its exhibit 'Life Before Dinosaurs: Meet the Permian Monsters' Saturday, Jan. 31, showcasing fossils, interactive displays + life-sized animatronics from the Permian Era, with educational programs for both adults and kids through Sept. 6.  East Idaho News
  • KIFI celebrates 65 years of broadcasting by recalling retired weathercaster Lloyd Lindsay Young (who introduced his unique greeting at KIFI before working in San Francisco and New York City). He now enjoys retirement near Sacramento with his wife.  KXPI
  • During a forum at The City Club of Idaho Falls, Pastor Doug Wilson of Christ Church said his support for America’s Christian roots stops short of authoritarian rule and affirmed a clear separation between church and state. His church also focuses on training ministers and teaching civics to kids.  KXPI

  • Idaho Falls farmer Josh Hartfield won a Ford F-150 Tremor and $10,000 by claiming the Bucks n’ Trucks Scratch game’s second prize as sales hit 99%. Lottery officials say players have until February 19 at 11:59 p.m. to enter for a final drawing on February 26 at 3:00 p.m.  KXPI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Caribou-Targhee National Forest announced an emergency closure of the Railroad Grade Trail after a quarter-acre fire struck Bear Gulch tunnel because its unstable structure prevents safe access. Prescribed burns began on January 29 near Big Bend Ridge (fire crews monitor the area) to manage slash piles.  KXPI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials in Canyon County have reported five probable measles cases in one unvaccinated household — two children attended Vallivue Middle and High Schools earlier in January. They are monitoring the exposed students and urging parents to vaccinate to help prevent further spread.  KXPI
  • Psychotic Addictions Gym opened in November at 2825 East 14th North in Ammon near iJump. Owners Nikki and Derrick Roberts now offer a 24/7 functional fitness facility with nine workout programs for a tight-knit community.  East Idaho News
