ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On March 17, 1940, a fire at the downtown Idaho Falls Eleanore Hotel forced guests to flee and claimed the life of a waterworks employee, while in 1977 a man survived a car crash on Interstate 15 near Inkom after his vehicle was struck by a semi-truck. East Idaho News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ North Star Independent will perform a community event at Bonneville High School on Saturday, April 4 at 5 p.m. to share a suicide awareness message with Hillcrest Percussion Ensemble and Stasia Acrobats, while tickets cost $7 per person and $25 per family. East Idaho News
- ➤ Wildlife filmmaker Kris Millgate will premiere her documentary film Sage Wisdom West about sage grouse at the Colonial Theater in downtown Idaho Falls on April 2, with a VIP party starting at 5:30 p.m., sponsored by Teton Toyota and Raymond James (tickets required). East Idaho News
- ➤ The Church of Jesus Christ has opened its Sunday School presidencies to women, effective immediately after the March 18 announcement. The change will affect nearly 400,000 local members and gives bishoprics new options in choosing leaders. KXPI

- ➤ Eighty-two Idaho students are candidates for the U.S. Department of Education’s Presidential Scholars Program. The state superintendent chose the candidates for excellence in academics, arts, or career technical education, and winners will be announced this summer (typically one male and one female per state). - ➤ About 800 fifth graders will perform patriotic songs at 7 PM today at Skyline High School to honor the nation’s 250th anniversary, continuing a 45-year tradition with District 91. KXPI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Forest officials are conducting prescribed burns this week near Swan Valley, starting with 100 acres at Rainey Creek (five miles east) as a safety measure. Burns in other zones may lead to temporary closures through May when weather conditions allow. KPVI

- ➤ Idaho Congressman Russ Fulcher updated Local News 8 today, saying rising gas prices are a short-term issue as global oil supplies improve. He explained that although the U.S. gets little oil from Iran, reopening the Hormuz Strait — a major shipping lane — may ease fuel costs soon. KXPI
