  • Idaho Falls Family YMCA is hosting its 4th Annual Fundraising Gala on April 5th at 6:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge with a Luau theme—featuring a raffle, music, food, and a dessert dash where tickets cost $100 each or $800 per table with proceeds going to the YMCA's scholarship program.  KPVI
  • Marta and Todd Murdock of Blackfoot are planning to open The Healing Ranch, a care center that will offer a working farm, counseling, and help for veterans, first responders, and people with disabilities. They began the project after launching a holiday program for local care homes and are now searching for land to build with an opening set for next summer—this effort is a lifelong dream born from personal loss.  KXPI
  • Local volunteer Elodie Taylor is raising funds for Feed My Starving Children by asking the community to donate $30,000 to provide 100,000 meals that will feed 300 children for a year — she said two-thirds of the funds must be raised by the end of April. Volunteers will meet at Cottonwood Elementary in Rigby on June 13 and 14 to assemble mobile food packs for shipment overseas — the fundraiser depends on timely contributions from local families and businesses.  East Idaho News
  • An Idaho Falls mother of four, Janelle Palmer, died March 13 from a spontaneous coronary artery dissection at her home and is remembered for her loving spirit. A viewing is scheduled for today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot—her funeral is set for March 22 at Idaho Falls North Stake Center with interment at Moreland Idaho Cemetery.  East Idaho News
  • 302 Hawthorne Elementary students received free new shoes on March 20 at the Mountain America Center + they arrived despite snowy, cold weather. The Operation Warm event was funded by donations from Mountain America Credit Union + Idaho State Bengals to help children replace worn-out footwear.  East Idaho News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One lane of U.S. Highway 95 near milepost 146.5 reopened for local traffic today between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.—flaggers are directing commercial vehicles to turn around while engineers reviewed Wednesday's drill data and expect a retaining wall design by Tuesday with repairs beginning next week and impacts lasting until at least late-April.  KIVI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Law enforcement recruits across eastern Idaho can now train at a new peace officer standards and training academy at the college of eastern Idaho. The state post council approved the program on March 20th and it is expected to train 80 to 100 officers each year — local officers say the academy will help streamline the hiring process.  KPVI
  • The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld an Idaho law that requires public schools to have separate bathrooms, locker rooms, showers, dressing areas, and sleeping areas for boys and girls—allowing the law to be enforced while a lawsuit continues. Attorney General Raúl Labrador said the decision protects all students' privacy and safety.  KXPI
