  • Peter was taken in as a stray about three months ago and is named Pet of the Week at Snake River Animal Shelter. The docile dog needs a backyard with a six-foot vinyl fence and can be met at 3000 Lindsay Boulevard.  East Idaho News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three Idaho Transportation Department employees rescued an elderly woman from a burning car on I-84 near Declo on March 6—emergency crews arrived soon after as flames quickly spread.  KIVI-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 45-year-old woman, Kelli Anne Martinez, was arrested on Sunday when a security camera caught her trying to break into a home on the 4700 block of Majestic View Drive and deputies found mail, drug pipes and about 5 grams of meth in her car; she faces charges for possessing meth and other crimes and pleaded not guilty on Monday.  East Idaho News
  • An Idaho Falls man, identified as Augustus Gokey, was arrested after he allegedly hit another man in the head with a baseball bat during a dispute over retrieving a stored shotgun — his preliminary hearing is set for March 28th — police said.  KPVI
  • An Idaho Falls woman was arrested on March 23 after a homeowner saw her trying to enter a home on the 4700 block of Majestic View Drive and take mail—deputies later discovered drug paraphernalia and about 5 grams of meth in her vehicle, with further charges for attempted unlawful entry pending.  KXPI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Idaho teenagers aged 13 to 19 can send in their short films for the 21st Annual Idaho Teen Film Festival, which has a $20 fee and awards seven $300 prizes with a $1,000 grand prize; films must be submitted by midnight on April 13. The festival will take place on May 3 at Hillcrest High School—featuring a 10:00 a.m. workshop, a 5:30 p.m. red carpet, and a 6:30 p.m. screening that is free to the public.  East Idaho News
  • The Frontier Center will host a Saturday, March 29th concert featuring BYU’s Vocal Point and Noteworthy with upbeat a cappella music—Noteworthy beatboxer Kassie Sanders from Rigby will showcase her talent and proceeds will support financial aid for students at BYU, BYU-Idaho and BYU-Hawaii.  KXPI

  • The Freedom Foundation filed legal complaints against several Idaho school districts on Thursday alleging that their payroll systems illegally collected teachers' union dues — school officials said the deductions are voluntary choices by teachers.  East Idaho News

  • Today, the Idaho Falls Police Department shares behind-the-scenes insights with Officer Brooke Yorgesen as she demonstrates her work on patrol, including a traffic stop and a dynamite detection exercise with Skadi—the newest K9 officer who can detect eight types of explosives. The department is recruiting for new officers.  East Idaho News
