CRIME NEWS

  • In Idaho Falls, a Blackfoot man—34—was charged after allegedly strangling and repeatedly punching a 33-week pregnant woman on March 4 during a domestic violence incident that also involved theft of her vehicle and debit card; he faces charges including robbery, grand theft, domestic battery with traumatic injury, aggravated battery, and attempted strangulation and could receive up to 51.5 years in prison if convicted.  East Idaho News

  • BYU a cappella groups Vocal Point and Noteworthy will perform at Frontier Center in Idaho Falls on Saturday, March 29 at 7 p.m.—tickets cost $25 to $45 with a 10% discount for groups of six or more and proceeds will fund scholarships for local BYU students.  East Idaho News
  • The art museum of eastern Idaho will host a community day on April 5 from 10 A.M to 2 P.M — visitors will work together on a community art piece that will be featured at the Spring Fling Fundraiser and see the opening of the Young at Art exhibit featuring school children’s work with free admission.  KPVI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Eastern Idaho’s water supply improved this winter with high reservoir levels and strong snowpack from normal and above-average precipitation, but forecast higher temperatures and lower spring and summer rainfall will boost irrigation demand—officials warn farmers may need extra storage water under the mitigation plan if dry conditions continue.  East Idaho News

  • On March 26th, activist Ryan Spoon reported state Rep. Stephanie Mickelsen’s farming businesses for allegedly boasting about migrant workers—prompting an ICE visit to Mickelsen Farms and the arrest of an employee. Mickelsen, from Idaho Falls, said the raid has hurt her ability to serve as a legislator.  East Idaho News
  • Governor Brad Little signed House Bill 304 on Wednesday, which provides $100 million in property tax relief by sending $50 million to lower homeowners’ bills and $50 million to help public schools pay off bonds and levies. The bill passed unanimously in the House and Senate and is the third major tax cut signed this month.  KXPI
  • Gov. Brad Little signed House Bill 304 into law — it gives $50 million to lower property taxes and another $50 million to pay down school bonds. The bill adds to over $4.6 billion in tax cuts since he took office.  KIVI-TV

  • Southeastern Idaho Public Health and community partners will host events all April for National Child Abuse Prevention Month—drive-thru events at schools and a Family Fun Event at Museum of Clean on April 5 provide key prevention resources. Public information specialist Dana Solomon said the initiative aims to inform the public and encourages community members to wear blue on Wednesdays.  KXPI
