  • Fundraising efforts from the Festival of Trees raised $85,000 for the local Development Workshop—an organization that helps disabled and disadvantaged residents live independently. A massive check was presented Thursday morning and the funds will support projects including a gymnasium refurbishment.  KXPI

  • Garden centers and nurseries in Idaho Falls are experiencing an early spring rush as warm weather drives customer visits and leads Town & Country Gardens to recruit seasonal help and stock up on supplies. Fred Meyer is ready with frost cloth if needed and both stores plan special events in April — signs of a busy season ahead.  KXPI

CRIME NEWS

  • A 24-year-old named Richard Ryan Steacy was arrested for allegedly spray painting graffiti on at least 18 buildings, power boxes & homes in Idaho Falls on March 22 after police spotted him riding an electric scooter near the Greenbelt Riverwalk, and he is set to appear in court on April 4.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Miller household at 55th East and Idaho Highway 26 has seen sand damage to their well and appliances since the recharge basin expansion began last year. State officials installed a sand filter and set a public hearing for April 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bonneville County Courthouse to address concerns—raising fears of falling home values and public health risks.  East Idaho News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo introduced the Cellphone Jamming Reform Act to let state and federal prisons block inmate communications after a 2024 prison escape involving Skylar Meade led to three IDOC officers being shot. The bill aims to end the use of cellphones for criminal activity from behind bars.  KIVI-TV
  • Yesterday, Governor Brad Little signed a controversial bill that allows law enforcement to enforce national immigration laws—soon after the ACLU of Idaho filed a lawsuit to block the measure. The lawsuit names five anonymous noncitizens— the Idaho Organization of Resource Councils— and The Alliance of Idaho as plaintiffs, claiming the law is unconstitutional.  KXPI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Eastern Idaho Public Health reported influenza A as the leading strain in eastern Idaho and western Wyoming, noting that cases peaked in late December to early January and declined as of March 27. Health officials advise residents to keep washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and getting vaccinated — flu shots will be available through June.  KXPI
