  • Local animal advocates warn that gifting live rabbits, chicks, or ducklings for Easter is a long-term commitment since these pets often become abandoned when owners cannot meet their specialized care needs + experts advise families to consider plush toys or other alternatives.  KXPI
  • After a record holiday season, organizers of the Light the World Giving Machines turned 95,000 visitors and 78,000 items into support across Idaho Falls, Rexburg, and Pocatello from Nov. 15 to Jan. 1. Presentations for 16 nonprofits continue in Pocatello today at 11 a.m. and in Ammon on Thursday.  East Idaho News
  • Light the World Giving Machine presented checks (totaling $625,270) to 7 nonprofits in Rexburg this afternoon after collecting 78,000 donations over 48 days across Rexburg, Idaho Falls and Pocatello. It will share Pocatello’s figures tomorrow and reveal Idaho Falls’ totals on Thursday, April 2nd.  KXPI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Idaho school districts are asking voters for over $181 million in May ballot measures, a rise from last May’s $75 million. The proposals include a $57 million bond for a fine arts center in Kimberly and a $200,000 supplemental levy in Mackay to fund athletics and maintenance.  KXPI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Fish and Game announced that over 214,000 catchable rainbow trout will be stocked in lakes and rivers this April to offer budding anglers new fishing spots (youth fish free with a license), with placement across regions including Panhandle, Southwest, Magic Valley, Southeast, Upper Snake and Salmon.  KIVI-TV
