Good morning, Idaho Falls. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 3rd of April.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a hearing Wednesday, Bonneville County Commissioners heard an appeal from homeowners Dana and Darla Miller who said a nearby aquifer recharge basin caused damage to their home and lowered its value. The couple seeks to block an expansion that would add a temporary gravel pit—part of Enterprize Canal Company's plan—while the board prepares to decide in a public meeting within a week.  KXPI
  • City and fire department officials broke ground on April 2nd for the new Station 6 at Spitfire Street at the curve with Boeing Street — a location chosen to help cut north side response times — and the fire station will include multiple bays for fire engines, ambulances, and personnel; its funding comes from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act and the sale of unneeded city property.  KXPI
  • A major milestone was completed in the construction of the new water tower in Idaho Falls on April 2 when the bowl was slowly raised to the base starting at 8 a.m. and taking over four hours. Welding is ongoing — the top section will be installed and connected to the city water system before the project is finished later this summer — and Park Avenue traffic remains open.  East Idaho News
  • On April 1, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ordered the closure of the Head Start office in Seattle that serves Idaho—along with Washington, Oregon, and Alaska—and placed staff on administrative leave until June without warning. Megan Woller, executive director of Idaho Head Start, said funding was frozen in January and many fear current grants may be canceled, which could affect around 4,000 children and families.  KIVI-TV
  • Governor Brad Little vetoed Senate Bill 1023 — the Idaho Medical Freedom Act — over the weekend, saying it risked children’s safety; legislators reintroduced a revised version as Senate Bill 1210 this week that will add measures to help schools bar sick students and clarify parental rights.  KIVI-TV
