COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The East Idaho Home and Garden Show is hosting over 200 exhibitors at Mountain America Center and Hero Arena in Idaho Falls this weekend. Organized by Elite Events, the event runs today from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with tickets at $5 and free admission for children 12 and under and select seniors and veterans — offering ideas for home improvement and outdoor living.  East Idaho News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded shortly after 5:45 p.m. Thursday to a kitchen fire at a home in Idaho Falls where heavy smoke was seen and all occupants exited safely despite significant damage.  KXPI

CRIME NEWS

  • Shelly Police Department has issued a warrant for local man Victor Sanchez Morado for failing to appear and two counts of driving under the influence, with a $10,000 bond set for the failure to appear charge and no bond for the DUI counts.  KPVI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park said that its lion Hondo—whose strong genes were noted by zoo officials—will leave for a zoo in Pittsburgh this Sunday as part of a nationwide breeding program to help preserve animal populations. The zoo will replace him with new lions arriving soon as it prepares to open for the 2025 season on April 24.  KXPI

  • Today at 8 p.m. outside the Bonneville County Courthouse, the commissioners will mark the nation’s 250th anniversary by lighting two lanterns and reading Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem in remembrance of Paul Revere’s ride — an event free for the public to attend. The county also invites residents and local businesses to join a community service day on Saturday by placing two candles outside their homes.  East Idaho News
  • At the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho, the Teens at The Art Museum program that teaches youth leadership faces uncertainty as federal cuts slow grant processing from the Institute of Museum and Library Services—this change has led the Idaho Commission for Libraries to approve $300,000 in contingency funds to help keep its programs running. With funding in doubt, local efforts to engage young Museum visitors may struggle next year.  East Idaho News

  • AgeWell Connections is a new one-stop shop for senior care launched in September in Idaho Falls by James Johnson, Tyler Drewes and Mike Beckstead that offers free placement assistance for assisted living, in-home nursing and memory care, along with home safety evaluations, renovations and connections to legal and estate advisors (designed to ease families' stress during emergencies).  East Idaho News
