COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Idaho Falls Zoo will open for the 2025 season on Thursday, April 24 with daily hours from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and last admission at 4:30 p.m.; the zoo also invites local families to join its annual Clean-Up Day (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. today) to support conservation efforts.  City of Idaho Falls
  • On Wednesday, local leaders from the Grand Teton Council and community met to discuss plans to boost scouting membership—a program that fell 95% since 2019 after LDS launched its own youth group. Council Director Elias Lopez noted they retained 1,500 youths and aim to use new outreach to strengthen both youth and adult leadership roles.  East Idaho News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A home sustained significant damage after a kitchen fire broke out Thursday evening on the 900 block of East 13th Street in Idaho Falls as firefighters rushed to the scene following an unfounded 911 call about smoke from a chimney (three engines, a ladder truck, two ambulances and a battalion chief were dispatched) and evacuated three people.  East Idaho News

  • Cirque Italia is performing its Water Circus at Grand Teton Mall from April 18 through April 21. The show, which follows a farm boy's adventure in the city, had a Friday performance at 7:30 p.m.—today it will run three times at 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. with another performance set for Monday at 7:30 p.m.  KXPI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Bureau of Land Management is asking for public input on leasing 3,740 acres in Bonneville County for a geothermal project—comments will be accepted until May 5. The plan would share 25% of bids and royalties with the U.S. Treasury, 25% with the county, and 50% with the state for renewable energy and local services.  KXPI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today at 8 p.m., the Bonneville County courthouse will hang two lanterns to honor Paul Revere’s midnight ride from April 18-19, 1775 which warned Samuel Adams and John Hancock of British movements—county commissioners declared Saturday a Day of Community Service to invite residents and businesses to learn about the historic event.  KXPI
  • Contractors will begin a waterline improvement project at the intersection of Anderson and Holmes Avenue on Monday, April 21 to upgrade a fire suppression line for local businesses—drivers will face detours as traffic lanes shift during construction.  City of Idaho Falls
  • Contractors will begin work at the Anderson and Holmes intersection on April 21 to upgrade a fire suppression waterline for nearby businesses—traffic detours and lane shifts will be in place during the project, and drivers are asked to reduce speeds and obey posted signs. This work will help improve the water infrastructure that connects existing lines in the area.  KXPI
