COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Life Together Alliance is collecting fabric+period products and underwear to assemble 800 reusable feminine hygiene kits for Kenyan girls. The kits, made by girls learning sewing skills with eight machines, will help provide essential sanitary products that last up to five years.  KXPI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Eastern Idaho State Fair announced its 'Red, White, and Blue Jeans' theme for the 250th birthday celebration, revealing Grandstand acts (Flo-Rida on Sept. 4, Gabriel Iglesias on Sept. 10, and Nate Smith on Sept. 11) with free shows as well. VIP tickets go on sale today at 8:00 a.m.  KPVI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • According to AAA, gas prices in Idaho remain steady at $4.31 per gallon, the same as last week. The national average is $4.04 per gallon (a slight drop) and future instability abroad could affect costs soon.  KPVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bridle Up Hope launched its new program at Champ’s Heart Ranch on April 8th, celebrating the first graduates as local women and girls build leadership and life skills through working with horses. The program will expand across Eastern Idaho & Pocatello.  KXPI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At a Jackson symposium held Friday, Wyoming Senior Assistant Attorney General Chris Brown said no proposal will shift Snake water to the Colorado River Basin because a 1949 compact requires Idaho approval. Rising water demand and warmer winters are straining the Snake system, prompting federal releases from Flaming Gorge Reservoir.  East Idaho News
  • Fire officials in Idaho Falls say wildfire season will be busy due to a dry winter + changing weather patterns and a state drought emergency. Crews recently fought the Snake Fire, which burned nearly 100 acres near the Snake River.  KXPI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho National Laboratory announced Jennifer Porter as its new fire chief, making her the lab’s first female fire chief. Porter, who has over 22 years of fire service experience, will lead 75 firefighters (covering three stations) and replace Jim Blair, who retires on April 30.  East Idaho News
  • The Idaho Education Association voted no confidence in Gov. Little during its annual meeting this past weekend after he signed House Bill 516 that limits school districts’ support for teacher unions (including fines for violations). The union is also considering revoking his education award amid growing frustration from members.  KXPI

HEALTH NEWS

  • A mobile clinic from Optum is coming to Idaho Falls, Ammon, and Pocatello this week to offer free preventative care in a partnership with UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage. The clinic will deliver screenings for conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and osteoporosis to help patients catch issues early.  KXPI
