COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City of Idaho Falls is hosting its annual Clean & Green neighborhood cleanup events from May 7 to May 23. In partnership with Code Enforcement and the Sanitation Division, residents can drop off unwanted items at local sites (including Sweeper Dump and Russ Freeman Park) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  KXPI

  • Local comedian Becky Keiser returned to stand-up on Friday, April 10 at BlackRock Fine Wine & Craft Beer after a break following her husband’s fatal crash in 2023, and her set mixed humor with memories to unite friends as she began her healing journey.  East Idaho News
  • Calakas Tacos & Miches is hosting a Cinco de Mayo event on May 3 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Waterfront (1220 Event Center Drive) to unite community members with live music, a car show, and over 40 vendors.  East Idaho News

  • AAA reports that gas prices remain high as a pump in Idaho Falls sells gasoline at $4.29 today, contributing to the state's rank as eighth most expensive with an average of $4.33 amid rising crude oil costs. AAA warns that surging oil prices could push pump costs even higher soon.  KIVI-TV
  • Crude oil jumped $10 per barrel last week and may push up pump prices as AAA Idaho warns of rising costs; in Idaho Falls, regular gas is now priced at $4.29 + drivers should be ready for further increases.  East Idaho News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Skyline High School reopens today for classes after air quality tests confirmed it is safe — facility staff will clean the building tonight and families who prefer to keep students home can do so without penalty.  East Idaho News
  • Skyline High School has canceled classes for the fourth day today due to a faulty air conditioning system that caused evacuations from a rotten egg smell; AP classes (held at alternate locations) will continue while further safety updates are provided.  KPVI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Fish & Game announced more than 240,000 catchable rainbow trout will be stocked across local lakes, ponds and reservoirs this May. Anglers with a valid license can fish at sites in regions (Panhandle, Clearwater, Southwest, Magic Valley, Southeast, Upper Snake and Salmon).  KIVI-TV

  • Today, Idaho National Laboratory named Jennifer Porter its first female fire chief, and she will lead 75 firefighters across three stations. She plans to bolster team readiness for a severe fire season amid low snowpack and warmer winter conditions — drawing on 18 years of firefighting experience.  KXPI

  • Former Governor and Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne died Friday in Boise at 74 after battling colon cancer, prompting health officials to stress regular screening starting at age 45 + earlier testing for those with a family history.  KXPI
