COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Three later-in-life friends on a bike tour are raising money for the Wounded Warriors Project and the American Cancer Society as they pass through Idaho Falls. They ride 50 miles a day, have raised nearly $10,000 so far, and one rider rejoined the group on May 10 after an injury — they expect to return home near the end of June.  KXPI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Allegiant Air launched nonstop flights from Idaho Falls Regional Airport to Denver International Airport on Thursday. The airline said the service will operate up to twice weekly and offers one-way fares as low as $42 (promotional offer).  KXPI

CRIME NEWS

  • Idaho Falls police are asking the public to help locate juvenile runaway Cordell Kenworthy — a 17-year-old white teen with brown hair, hazel eyes, and a build of 6 feet tall and about 160 pounds — who was last seen at 9:30 p.m. on Monday wearing a black hoodie, plaid coat, and carrying a yellow backpack.  KPVI
  • Johnathan Paul Shurts, a 48-year-old man, was arrested on May 22 after a victim reported he molested her at a babysitter’s house in 2010 and 2011 and now faces charges of felony lewd conduct with a child under 16 and felony child sexual abuse of a minor, has posted bail and is set to appear for a jury trial on July 29—police stress all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.  East Idaho News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local Career and Technical Education Center student Ty Whitmeyer, 17, qualified for a national firefighting competition by finishing first in state tests at the SkillsUSA 2025 meeting in Boise and will go to Nationals in Atlanta from June 23 through 27. Two fundraisers (Dyno Day on May 24 at Idaho Falls High School and a corn hole tournament on June 12 at the Elks Lodge) will raise $4,000 for his trip.  East Idaho News
  • Crew Belnap, an 18-year-old Hillcrest High School graduate from Ammon, will begin his appointment at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland on June 26—one of about 11% accepted after a competitive process—and his acceptance included a key endorsement from U.S. Senator Jim Risch.  East Idaho News

  • The Bonneville County GOP is accepting applications for a new county clerk after Penny Manning, who has served for nine years, will resign on July 25. The committee will interview candidates on June 23 at the Snake River Event Center and will review applications until 5 p.m. on June 6.  East Idaho News
  • Idaho’s Joint Financial Appropriations and Finance committee ended its three-day tour with a stop at the Idaho National Laboratory on May 21, where director Chris Ritter explained how artificial intelligence can boost reactor testing and management in nuclear power. Ritter said the United States needs nearly 100 gigawatts more power, a gap that is driving efforts to fund new nuclear reactors—steps that may help the country keep pace with global advances.  East Idaho News
