  • Snake River Animal Shelter named Cleo, a three-year-old pit bull-terrier mix that came in as a stray, as Pet of the Week; she is good with kids and other dogs—staff remain unsure about her reaction to cats. Residents can visit the shelter at 3000 Lindsay Boulevard to meet her in person.  East Idaho News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 18-year-old from Pocatello drowned after jumping into the Bear River from the Last Chance Flume on May 31 and law enforcement warns that bridge diving is risky because some counties ban the act and hidden dangers like unpredictable water depths, rocks, and debris threaten safety—officials urge residents to use life jackets and remain in designated areas.  KXPI

CRIME NEWS

  • A local man, Jason Varnal Evans (56), was indicted on May 22 and is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl and committing lewd conduct with a minor, and he will appear before District Judge Michael Whyte at 8:45 a.m. on June 9 for arraignment on crimes alleged to have been committed from January 2019 to January 2021.  East Idaho News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Idaho Falls Symphony said Monday that it formed a committee to search the nation for a new music director over the next two seasons. The committee—led by Jake Durtschi—will set candidate criteria, invite guest conductors for the 2026–2027 season, and choose a leader by May 2027 while seeking feedback from audiences, musicians and board members.  KXPI

  • The College of Eastern Idaho was hit by a cyberattack last week when a student’s personal laptop brought malware into the school’s network—college officials shut down the systems to stop further intrusion and are working with cybersecurity experts to restore functionality while finding no evidence of a data breach.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two magnitude 3.6 quakes struck near Stanley on Monday evening at 8:23 p.m. and 8:26 p.m. — their epicenters were about 9 to 10 miles northwest of Stanley and were the largest in a swarm that included at least 20 quakes since Saturday.  KXPI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Falls Regional Airport reopened its Long-term, Short-term, and Hourly parking lots after updating its parking system. Travelers leaving the terminal must use the exit lane that matches their ticket type—QR code tickets go to the outside lane and black stripe tickets go to the center lane—with the first hour free.  KXPI
