- ➤ Dozens of eager shoppers lined up overnight outside Best Buy in Idaho Falls on June 4 for the new Nintendo Switch release, with some waiting up to four hours for a chance to buy the console. - ➤ Luis Garcia-Diaz, a 27-year-old from Rexburg, accepted a plea deal on May 7 for two vehicular manslaughter charges tied to the May 18 drunk driving crash on U.S. Highway 20 near Lindsay Boulevard in Idaho Falls that killed six people, and the state recommends a 15-year sentence while he is set to change his plea at 9 a.m. on June 10. - ➤ Idaho Falls will host two free events for the Juneteenth Community Music Festival with the first on Saturday June 14th at 9 a.m. at the Riverwalk Bandstand featuring live music and booths that share local cultural history—while the second is on Thursday June 19th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Colonial Theater with music exploring American and African American themes. - ➤ Gov. Brad Little announced Tuesday afternoon that Bonneville County Magistrate Judge Brendon Taylor has been named district judge to fill the vacancy left by Bruce Pickett’s retirement in January. Taylor, who has served since 2022 and led the Domestic Violence Treatment Court program, brings 22 years of litigation experience and earned his law degree from Idaho State University (Washburn University School of Law). - ➤ Governor Little announced that Idaho State Police will soon transport immigrants who completed criminal sentences to federal detention centers under a new ICE agreement. The state will spend up to $300,000 for roughly 100 transports — most heading to a facility in Jefferson County — to keep dangerous individuals out of local communities. KIVI-TV
- ➤ Idaho State Police partnered with ICE on June 5th to transport inmates convicted of crimes directly to ICE detention centers instead of releasing them into the community. State officials said they will seek 300,000 dollars in funding for up to 100 transfers pending approval from the State Board of Examiners. East Idaho News
- ➤ Idaho State Police agreed with ICE under the 287(g) program to move hundreds of convicted immigrants from local jails to ICE detention centers—Governor Brad Little said the plan will keep dangerous criminals out of our communities.
