COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Texas Roadhouse hosted a fundraiser Tuesday night to honor the Coeur d'Alene Fire department after two firefighters were shot and killed and another injured in an ambush while on a fire call—every Idaho location joined in and funds raised along with a GoFundMe by Idaho Falls Fire Fighters Local 1565, which has a $25,000 goal, will benefit the firefighters' families.  KPVI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, Florrita Harker died in a crash on Highway 20 in Madison County near Rexburg when deputies discovered two vehicles submerged in a pond — rescue crews tried to free her while other passengers escaped — and investigators began looking into the incident.  KPVI

CRIME NEWS

  • Idaho Power is alerting customers to a rise in scams where imposters call and visit door-to-door using spoofed numbers to demand immediate payment—customers are urged to use secure online billing and verify any employee’s identification before making a payment.  KXPI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College of Eastern Idaho launched its inaugural POST Patrol Academy on July 7th to train five recruits from Idaho Falls, St. Anthony and Bonneville County. The 18-week program will focus on firearms safety, emergency vehicle operations and arrest techniques, with instruction from retired law enforcement experts (over 90 years of combined experience).  KXPI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Water Resources reports that water supplies will drop quickly this summer and fall if above-average monsoon rains do not arrive—Treasure Valley systems are more secure while Northern and Eastern areas show low reservoir levels. Water managers warn that higher water usage in the north could lead to shortages by August—conditions that may worsen if rain remains scarce.  KIVI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • HK Contractors resumed milling and paving on Lindsay Boulevard and at the Utah and Pancheri intersection as part of ongoing street improvements, and the intersection has been reduced to one lane in each direction as of today. A detour will be set up at the Sunnyside Road and Woodruff Avenue intersection starting Saturday night until Monday morning, and work on North Boulevard with lane shifts will continue through the week of July 14–18 — drivers should plan alternate routes and follow posted signs.  East Idaho News
  • The Shoshone Bannock Tribal Office of Emergency Management said the Garden Creek Fire burned 5,418 acres on the Fort Hall reservation and spread along the Blackfoot River before being 100% contained—fire officials said they are investigating if human actions caused the blaze.  KPVI

  • A Street Soup honors its late founder Bryan Lloyd—who died four years ago in June—by serving soup and support during Men's Mental Health Month after recent local suicides raised concerns about men's well-being. Staff members—calling the effort a tribute to his compassion—urge anyone struggling with depression to seek help and talk to a staff member.  KXPI
