COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bannock Humane Society is hosting its first Paws for the Cause fundraiser on Saturday from 5 to 7 pm, offering rescue dog adoptions and many pet activities — including live entertainment, a raffle, and a doggy kissing booth. All proceeds will benefit seven local rescues and may set the stage for an annual event.  KPVI
  • VAST Apparel in Idaho Falls raised $10,000 to support injured firefighter Dave Tysdal from last month's Coeur d'Alene shooting—working with the Red and Blue Foundation so that all profits from the campaign go directly to his family.  KXPI
  • Mountain America Center will debut Summer Market Days on July 25—26 with local vendors, food trucks, live music and interactive activities. A free outdoor concert on Friday at 6 p.m.—featuring Due West and local performers—will highlight the event, and over 8,000 people are expected to attend.  East Idaho News
  • Jon-Marc and Brianna Lamb, both 24, began their ministry at the Salvation Army Idaho Falls Corps at 605 North Boulevard on July 2 after graduating from The Salvation Army College for Officer Training in California — they now oversee a congregation of about 30. They will hold worship services at 11 a.m. and Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. this coming Sunday and plan to serve for at least three to five years.  East Idaho News
  • Desert Eagles Model Airplane Flying Club will host its annual fundraiser on July 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its flying field north of Doug Andrus Trucking to help local veterans get powered wheelchairs. Participants can shoot paintballs at RC planes or fly them under supervision for $3 each — funds that will go to Veterans Mobility Corp.  East Idaho News

  • Thor's Chocolate rebranded as a luxury brand with an expanded line of treats, including chocolate-covered pretzels, marshmallows, almonds, cinnamon sweets, and hot chocolate in collectible packaging (featuring images of Thor and Freya). Owner Christian Becker began making his German-style chocolate at home in 2023 and now sells his products online and at local farmers markets while planning a new factory space for corporate gifting.  East Idaho News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Public Safety Communications Commission approved a $15 million grant to upgrade the emergency response system by moving its analog 911 infrastructure to Next Generation 911 — a secure digital network that sends real-time location data, text messages, photos, videos and live call transcription. The project will take about 18 months to complete — its funding comes from a 25-cent surcharge on phone bills.  KPVI

  • Idaho Falls now has a new place for athletes as Odyssey Athletics Training Facility opened last week at 2281 Endeavor Street—Ryley Nelson, his wife Madi Nelson and coach Oakley Hussey partnered to offer public classes for kids in various sports to improve their skills.  East Idaho News
