CRIME NEWS

  • A 27-year-old man identified as Brady Merriweather died after losing control of his Infiniti Q50 during a street race near a Phillips 66 gas station on West 17th Street Tuesday night—police said he collided with a wall while racing a light-colored truck and investigators are asking witnesses for additional information.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State and federal agencies put Stage 1 fire restrictions in place across eastern Idaho because the area has been extremely dry and hot this summer. The rules—banning campfires, stove fires and open fires outside special areas—aim to reduce the risk of costly wildfires.  East Idaho News
  • State and Federal Land Management agencies implemented fire restrictions in eastern Idaho at midnight on August 7 to lower the number of preventable fires+the new policy covers forest and rangelands in counties including Bannock, Bear Lake, Bingham, Bonneville, Butte, Caribou, Clark, Franklin, Fremont, Jefferson, Madison, Power, Oneida and Teton+.  KPVI

  • The American Red Cross is urging blood donors and offering free A1C testing—plus a $15 e-gift card for donations through August 28. Donors with type O positive or B negative blood are especially encouraged to donate.  KPVI
  • Eastern Idaho Public Health reported a case of measles in an unvaccinated adolescent traveler who self-isolated after a healthcare provider observed measles symptoms, and officials are monitoring household contacts for possible exposure.  East Idaho News
