- ➤ An 81-year-old woman died and an 80-year-old man was injured in a two-vehicle crash on I-15 near Blackfoot early this morning—Idaho State Police said a 21-year-old man from Idaho Falls hit the rear of a minivan at mile marker 89 just after 5 a.m. and are investigating the cause. KXPI
- ➤ An 81-year-old man suffered minor burns while camping near Arco Highway as firefighters battled the fast-moving Lava Trail Fire that spread over 91.2 acres near Hell’s Half-Acre Wednesday+ crews from various agencies responded quickly and contained the blaze by Thursday night+ though it is not yet fully controlled. - ➤ Idaho Falls Education Association teachers voted on Wednesday to reject the new 2025-2026 contract because changes in the agreement remove key protections and financial stipends—raising concerns about diminished teacher rights. District 91 officials said they will work with the union to resolve these issues as school starts in two weeks. East Idaho News

- ➤ Beginning Monday, the Idaho Transportation Department and Idaho National Laboratory will change traffic at the Puzzle intersection during INL paving work, reducing speeds to 50 mph and allowing only right turns during morning and overnight hours. From 4 to 6:30 p.m., drivers must travel outbound—an alternate route is available via West Portland Avenue, Gate Three—until work ends in late September. East Idaho News
- ➤ Local business owners are upset after the Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corporation announced on Aug. 1 that free two-hour parking would change to app-based paid parking—a shift set to affect areas from Memorial Drive to Yellowstone Avenue in October. IFDDC postponed the city hearing and plans to work with business owners after a meeting with over 20 representatives+ a petition reached nearly 1,900 signatures. East Idaho News
- ➤ The Idaho Transportation Department now allows single-lane traffic on the Porterville overpass after a semi-truck struck a backhoe hauling on I-15 on Aug. 6, causing damage to a concrete girder — traffic is directed by signals and concrete barriers as ITD investigates repair options. KXPI

- ➤ Nate Rose, a 22-year-old former baseball star with the Idaho Falls Bandits, struggled with kidney disease since 2018 and gave up baseball to focus on his health. His mother donated a kidney last winter, and he will have a transplant on Aug. 26—he hopes for a full recovery after some downtime. East Idaho News
