- ➤ Shelley's annual Spud Days will take place on Saturday, September 20th with a parade starting at 10 a.m. and the event features the 'Life is a Highway' theme, with commercial entries at $40 online and prize money for the best floats; grand marshal Ron Searle—a retired potato farmer who worked in the local education system—will lead the parade. - ➤ Cooper, a 4-year-old mixed breed dog, is named Pet of the Week by Snake River Animal Shelter where Romi Weaver calls him sweet and well-behaved and says he interacts well with kids, livestock and other dogs — he is partially house-trained and crate-trained as noted by his previous owner. Visitors can stop by the shelter during regular business hours to meet him while his best friend Moose appears in another segment. East Idaho News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Horn Fire near Highway 87 at the Idaho-Montana border is now 50% contained over 2800 acres, and the evacuation warning for Madison County was lifted Saturday so residents can return home. Fire officials said a lightning strike started the fire. KXPI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A small wildfire sparked by a lightning strike is burning near Palisades Reservoir and has consumed about a quarter of an acre—fire crews from Swan Valley Fire District, Bonneville County, the Forest Service and the BLM are on the scene to keep it from threatening any structures. KXPI
- ➤ Fremont County lifted evacuation orders for the Sand Creek Fire that burned over 850 acres west of Ashton after lightning ignited the blaze on Friday, and BLM Idaho Fire reported the 60% contained fire still has 40% of its perimeter with heat—fire crews now focus on heavy fuels and timber near the containment lines.
