COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A 16-year partnership between the University of Idaho 4-H program and the Bureau of Land Management will bring wild horses for adoption at the Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 30 — young 4-H members will also host a trail challenge at 11 a.m. and a freestyle demonstration at 5 p.m. Aug. 29, with adopters required to be at least 18 years old.  East Idaho News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Michael Lee, 39, of Idaho Falls, was killed in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 91 and Moccasin Drive near Fort Hall Saturday around 10:30 a.m., and family and friends remember him as a warm, funny man who easily made friends.  East Idaho News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 45-year-old man was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty by Alford plea to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old at his home as her siblings watched her play with a VR headset—District Judge Michael Whyte suspended his prison term, ordered 90 days in county jail with credit for time served, and imposed a four-year probation with restrictions on contact with minors.  East Idaho News
  • A man was killed after a shootout with police in Idaho Falls Tuesday night on the 100 block of clubhouse circle after he fired a shot and made threats when officers tried to arrest him at an apartment complex—two officers returned fire and he later died at a local hospital.  KPVI

  • Idaho state officials have provided more details on how families can qualify for the School Choice Tax Credit, which offers up to $5,000 per student for eligible education expenses — the Idaho State Tax Commission updated its FAQs online to explain the requirements for next school year.  KPVI

  • Last week, Sheriff Samuel Hulse held two award events where 26 new deputies were sworn in and had badges pinned. The department also honored officers for community service, meritorious actions, and life saving efforts—recognizing their ongoing commitment to excellence.  KXPI
  • The Bureau of Land Management invites the public to adopt wild horses at the Eastern Idaho State Fair at 97 Park St. in Blackfoot on Aug 30 at 11:30 a.m. Youths from local 4-H clubs will demonstrate mustang training skills with a trail challenge on Aug 29 at 11 a.m and a freestyle ride at 5 p.m.  KXPI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local health officials are urging Idahoans to get vaccinated against measles after the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reported the third confirmed case in an unvaccinated child in Bonner County on August 20 — earlier cases were confirmed in Kootenai County and Eastern Idaho. They warn that low measles, mumps, and rubella immunization rates and vaccine misinformation may lead to further community spread.  KXPI
