  • Authorities reported that a local man died in a car crash near Rexburg. Officials have issued a flood watch through this evening—heavy rain may cause rivers and creeks to overflow in several Idaho areas.  KPVI

  • Dayna Robertson opened Sensory Getaway on Aug. 1 at 1610 Bennett Avenue in Idaho Falls. The former police department building now has several rooms with sensory activities for kids with autism, Down syndrome or ADHD—providing a safe space for exploration.  East Idaho News

  • Three years after Morey Pelton was murdered at the Ririe Rest Stop, law enforcement charged William James Burton Jr. with felony accessory for withholding or concealing details of the crime+ his preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 9.  KXPI

  • Huckleberries are a cherished Idaho staple that people often forage because they require special acidic soil and a narrow window of shade—conditions that keep them rare and hard to grow commercially. University of Idaho Extension explains that this natural scarcity adds value and mystique to the berry, making it a popular treat despite the challenges of cultivation.  KPVI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rocky Mountain Power customers will get a federal billing credit that may reduce their bills by up to $51.87 annually, starting October 1 through September 30, as the Idaho Public Utilities Commission authorized the measure for qualifying residential and farm customers. The billing credit under the Bonneville Power Administration Residential Exchange Program increased from $7.93 million to $13.1 million—pending final approval.  KXPI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Cleanup Project will soon demolish the defueled S5G naval reactor prototype vessel at the Naval Reactors Facility following a memo signed by federal and state agencies that sets the plan for removing hazardous materials and backfilling the basin so the building can support future work—input from public comments and advisory groups guided the decision. This move aims to cut long-term maintenance costs and lower risks for workers and the public.  KXPI
  • Today, the Idaho Legislature’s New Government Efficiency Committee held its second meeting to set a plan for cutting state government expenses by reviewing laws for repeal and examining public suggestions—including a possible review of Medicaid expansion. State agencies will soon check for outdated rules— and the task force will meet again in September and October.  KPVI
