ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Fish and Game will begin a fish salvage order on August 30 through October 31 to let anglers harvest fish from the flatwater part of Mackay Reservoir as Big Lost River Irrigation District drains it for dam work and future upgrades — methods using firearms, explosives, chemicals, or electric current are not allowed. This order aims to maximize public use of the fishery before declining water levels cause many fish to be lost.  KXPI
  • Fire crews are battling the Willow Creek Fire that has burned over 4,000 acres and is now 12% contained—rainfall has allowed crews to work on the fire’s edge and strengthen control lines, while residents along Milepost 75 south to Salt Pass and west of Highway 89 from Reevesschwab lane to Gomms Pond should stay alert for potential evacuation orders.  KPVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An Idaho Falls couple, Teresa Dominick and Jared Dominick, are running for different city council seats to fix heavy traffic and manage the city's fast growth as Teresa challenges a seat held by Councilwoman Lisa Burtenshaw while Jared opposes incumbent Jim Francis.
