EDUCATION NEWS

  • Idaho high school students may soon study Western civilization in a new two-semester elective if the proposed content standards pass a rule‐making process this fall—setting up the course to launch in the 2026-2027 school year. The standards, which cover topics from ancient Greece to the Enlightenment, were approved last month by the state board and now await final legislative approval.  KIVI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Transportation said US-20 near Lindsay Boulevard will be improved — its plan includes road widening and relocating the I-15 exit — to reduce congestion and improve safety, though no timeline has been set. A collision on August 29 involving four vehicles left passengers with minor injuries, and ITD urged drivers to be careful in work zones.  KXPI
  • Christian Ashcraft, a 32-year-old former city employee with a master’s degree in public administration, is running for mayor of Idaho Falls with a focus on building a strong economy and a trusted government. He will hold a campaign kickoff along the greenbelt at Taylor’s Crossing on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.—an important event before the Nov. 4 election.  East Idaho News
  • Attorney General Raúl Labrador recovered $500K for an Idaho consumer after Coinbase failed to credit a large deposit, and the consumer spent over a month trying to resolve the issue; the company later fully credited the account and added $100 to apologize for the error — the matter was resolved without litigation.  KXPI
  • Bonneville County Fire District 1 will unveil a permanent 9/11 monument on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Ammon to honor first responders and nearly 3000 lives lost—local officials, veterans, and the community will attend the ceremony featuring remarks, a moment of silence, and designated parking.  East Idaho News
  • Southern Idaho wildfire crews received new white engines with roll bars and airbags — the first three of a planned fleet of 50 for BLM Twin Falls — and they are waiting on a few pieces of equipment before the trucks are fully ready for the ongoing fire season.  KIVI-TV

  • Team Lionheart MMA at 510 2nd Street in Idaho Falls is hosting its fourth annual car wash fundraiser on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to raise about $3,200 so four junior kickboxers—13-year-old Chance Somma, 10-year-old Gunner Somma, 12-year-old Kaysah Perrenoud and 16-year-old Logan Glauser—can compete in the King of the Ring Junior Kickboxing Championships in Hawaii this December.  East Idaho News
