COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Red Cross urges families to prepare for disasters during National Preparedness Month through September—regional communications director Matt Ochsner said that having a family plan and stocked go bags cuts stress in an emergency. The organization, which responds to nearly 200 disasters a year in Idaho and Eastern Oregon, added that checking working smoke alarms can reduce fire risks—neighbors knowing how to help each other is key.  KXPI
  • Local athlete Tanner Scoresby died Tuesday after complications from T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma led to a collapsed lung and high heart rate at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. His family honored his full life with heartfelt tributes and said funeral arrangements will be announced soon—community members remember his brave fight.  KXPI
  • Idaho Central Credit Union in Chubbuck hosted an event Tuesday to introduce the new 'Light the World Giving Machines'—machines that will visit Pocatello, Rexburg and Idaho Falls in November and December to collect donations for local charities. Since their launch in 2017, the machines have raised more than $50 million for meals, services and clothing.  KPVI
  • Eastern Idaho is hosting several events today to honor Patriots Day and remember 9/11. In Rexburg, the Madison Fire Department Pipe Brigade holds a flag raising and memorial walk at 7:00 a.m.—in Pocatello, a ceremony with a reading and community dinner starts at 5:30 p.m., the ICCU Dome holds a Memorial Stair Climb from 5:30 to 8 p.m., and in Ammon Bonneville County Fire District 1 will unveil a permanent monument at 7:30 p.m.  KXPI

CRIME NEWS

  • Court documents show the FBI was involved in the Fremont County voter fraud investigation since April 2024 as part of the case against three individuals, with one charge filed on September 2 at Island Park—allegedly for using a false address to vote during the May 16 election. The affidavit details that Teara Gailbraith was implicated after her name appeared on a list of challenged voters obtained on May 2.  KXPI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Madison County fire officials canceled the open burn ban yesterday—ending a measure in place since August 1 due to increased fuel moisture and relative humidity—and they urged the public to burn safely despite ongoing drought conditions.  KPVI

  • Bonneville County Commissioners and the Mayor of Idaho Falls signed a proclamation Tuesday afternoon designating Sept. 14 as Missing Persons Day in honor of Amber Hoopes—abducted from her grandparents' home near Lincoln Road in 2001—while also urging attention to other local missing persons cases.  East Idaho News
