COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On September 12th, over 200 community members gathered outside the Bonneville County Fire District No. 1 in Ammon to unveil a new 9/11 monument honoring nearly 3,000 victims—featuring the last piece of steel from the Twin Towers. Captain Kevin Calhoun of the New York Fire Department helped secure the steel—ensuring the monument’s unique role in remembering that tragic day.  East Idaho News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Idaho Commission on the Arts is investing nearly $750,000 in local arts organizations, schools and school districts to support art education, performances and exhibitions in southeastern Idaho—this grant aims to keep cultural traditions accessible for Idahoans. The funding will help expand arts opportunities in the upcoming school year.  KPVI
  • Today the Idaho Falls Symphony brings a Carnival-themed concert at Freeman Park at 5 p.m.—organizers said the free, family-friendly show will feature lively pieces by Dvořák and a new Carousel arrangement with guest conductor Brad Camphouse. Chesbro Music will host a hands-on musical instrument petting zoo while local food vendors serve meals.  East Idaho News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • District 91 and the Idaho Falls Education Association reached a tentative agreement after months of talks. The Education Association will hold its open ratification meeting on Wednesday, September 17 at 3:00 p.m. in the Taylor View Middle School auditorium—only IFEA members can vote while students are dismissed early and bus schedules are adjusted.  KXPI
  • Idaho State University mourned the loss of Dr. Jeff Meldrum, 65, a longtime professor and Bigfoot expert who passed away after a brief battle with brain cancer earlier this week. He taught since 1993 and collected one of the largest Bigfoot evidence collections—his work was featured in documentaries.  KXPI
  • The College of Eastern Idaho's nursing program was ranked third statewide by RegisteredNursing.org for its high NCLEX-RN pass rate and hands-on clinical training. The ranking highlights the program’s robust curriculum and advanced simulation labs — factors that set it apart from other institutions.  KXPI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service are battling several lightning-caused wildfires in Caribou-Targhee National Forest using a dual strategy — they work to suppress an active blaze and protect nearby areas. The 1-acre Gormer Fire near Swan Valley still produces smoke along Highway 26 while the half-acre Olsen Creek Fire south of Wayan is fully contained and under close observation.  KXPI

  • The Harlem Globetrotters will play at Mountain America Center on February 7th as part of their 100-year tour — they will face the Washington Generals while tickets go on sale September 22nd at 10 a.m.  KPVI
