Good morning, Idaho Falls. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 25th of September.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • EastIdahoNews.com looked back at local history from Sept. 22 to 28 — it covered a 1932 incident in Idaho Falls when a fire chief’s car burst into flames, a 1951 rescue of a 16 year old boy from Snake River Canyon, a 1915 bootlegging arrest in Blackfoot, and a 1977 murder plea in St. Anthony that surprised local officials.  East Idaho News
  • A family friend recalled 16-year-old Lucy James—who died in a car crash on August 22—and said her memory inspired her family to create the 'Dance Like Lucy's Watching' event to honor her love for dance and rodeo. The event will be held Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. at Cowboy Warrior Ranch and will raise scholarship funds for local high school rodeo participants.  East Idaho News
  • The Idaho Falls LDS Temple celebrated its 80th anniversary on Tuesday—marking its dedication in 1945 by George Albert Smith with 24,000 people attending. The temple is a key part of local history—being the first LDS temple in the area.  KXPI
  • Swore Farms celebrates 25 years with 24,000 pumpkins planted and many activities planned plus a corn maze that covers 3.36 acres with three miles of paths. The farm opens Monday September 29th and will offer wagon rides to teach visitors about local farming plus a pumpkin fairy event to help community families in need.  KPVI

BUSINESS NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Educators welcomed a new charter school at a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday morning on Lewisville Highway—across from Sage Lake Golf Course—where Gem Prep Charter School will serve grades K-8 in the 2026-2027 school year and expand to K-12 by 2030. This event marked the eighth Gem Prep campus in Idaho.  KXPI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction crews have added new concrete barriers around the railroad crossing on Anderson Street, creating a left-turn lane for businesses but blocking car turnarounds during train crossings—raising concerns for local trucking operations. The Idaho Department of Transportation will upgrade the traffic signal on Anderson and Holmes Avenue to improve traffic flow.  KXPI
  • The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office shares roundabout safety tips during National Roundabout Week—officials warn that speeding and inattention lead to common mistakes, while roundabouts have reduced fatal crashes by 82% compared to intersections. Sgt. Brian Lovell advises new drivers to remain calm and follow traffic rules for safer navigation in these roundabouts.  KXPI
  • The Idaho Transportation Department will close westbound access at Exit 211 in Heyburn tomorrow for roughly two weeks so construction crews can rebuild the interchange. Eastbound traffic and Highway 30 detours will remain in place, and the contractor expects the temporary shutdown to reduce construction time by about one month — easing truck movement on I-84.  KIVI-TV
