- ➤ Snake River Animal Shelter will celebrate its 10th anniversary on October 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with family-friendly activities including free treats like pup cups and cotton candy and a Mini Mutt Strut for dogs from 4 to 6 p.m.—the event will also feature new attractions such as the Project Liebe Play Yard and the Carrie Scheid Humane Education Project. - ➤ Grease Monkey store at 2100 Channing Way celebrated its 10th anniversary yesterday by offering $25 off oil changes and services until 6 p.m. Thursday and serving cupcakes to customers who wished Seymour the Monkey a happy birthday. Area Manager Chris Dougan said the event helped the store grow from servicing 12-13 cars a day to becoming the No. 3 location nationwide—an achievement reflecting strong community support. - ➤ Chad Vanderbeek, 43, appeared in court yesterday in Fremont County on felony charges of illegal voting and perjury for casting an absentee ballot in Island Park during May 2023—defense attorneys argued he maintained residency in Idaho Falls. East Idaho News
- ➤ Classes were canceled on Thursday at Skyline High, Eagle Rock Middle, and Ethel Boyes Elementary after a student made a gun threat comment and police investigated a rumor of a car with a gun at a school dance — authorities deemed the threat not credible while the student faces discipline. - ➤ Twenty-four dancers from Extreme Ballroom in Idaho Falls have been invited to perform at the prestigious Carl Alan Awards in London—an event that honors leaders in dance. They will perform with top ballroom and Latin couples, enjoy street shows in London, and travel to Paris for scheduled shows as director Staci Huston said the honor is like the Oscars of dance. KXPI
- ➤ Film Garage 208 opened its 2025 Halloween Short Film Contest, inviting all skill levels to plan, shoot and edit a short film that includes dialogue and a running scene. - ➤ Idaho Falls Fire Chief Duane Nelson announced that he will retire on Oct. 17 after nearly 28 years of service, during which he modernized the department and secured more than $8.5 million in grants—city officials will soon begin the process to appoint an Interim Chief and plan a future hiring schedule. - ➤ Anderson Street now features concrete barriers near the railroad crossing between North Boulevard and Holmes Avenue that create dedicated left-turn lanes to Wadsworth Drive and limit access for trucks, which local businesses say complicates their operations. The City, working with ITD and Union Pacific, says the safety measures—like medians to guide traffic and automated gates being installed—are standard parts of the improvement project. KXPI
- ➤ Congressman Mike Simpson is seeking $892,000 to fund the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Radio Improvement Project that will upgrade a radio system used by first responders across five counties.
