COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Registration opens today at 8:00 a.m. for the Third Annual UTV Holiday Light Parade and Stones KIA Firework Show, limited to 400 participants with a $10 fee that benefits the Community Food Basket. The parade will run Friday, Dec. 19—featuring two 10-minute fireworks shows and a festive procession along the Idaho Falls Riverwalk.  KXPI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • George’s Tire Pros changed its name from Big O Tires on Sept 2 at 265 Northgate Mile in Idaho Falls after 43 years under the Casanovas. The owners—facing a franchise renewal and health concerns—stepped back as their children assumed daily operations while the couple kept a 50% stake.  East Idaho News
  • Kay Walker, 83, of Idaho Falls started Potato Soap and Gifts of Idaho in 2021 to make soap, lotion, and lip balm from Idaho potatoes after a financial setback, and his products are sold in local mom-and-pop stores and online. He retired from Titan Fuel Tanks—he began his business after the COVID-19 slowdown—and now plans to refine a French Fry-flavored lip balm with a hoped-for contract with the Idaho Potato Commission in February.  East Idaho News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Idaho Transportation Department held a winter driving class in Idaho Falls this week to help drivers learn safe techniques on snowy and icy roads. State troopers and snow plow operators led the session and future classes will be in Rexburg on November 12, Pocatello on November 18, and Rigby on December 3.  KPVI
  • College of Eastern Idaho graduated its first POST academy students today, letting officers train for 17 weeks in their own communities—this system avoids the need to travel to other cities—and build local skills. The five graduates—hired by law enforcement agencies that paid for their training—will now spend six weeks riding with senior officers and completing field training.  KXPI

  • Anna and Jacob Ames of Blackfoot were surprised at the hospital by Secret Santa during a time when their premature son continues to fight in the NICU.
