- ➤ The Community Food Basket launched a two-week challenge called 'Show Up and Share IF' Monday to raise $10,000 for emergency costs—and by Tuesday the community had exceeded its goal as food insecurity rose with furloughed workers and stalled SNAP benefits. The organization has since doubled its target to $20,000 to support food banks through high-demand summer months. KXPI
- ➤ Valorie Blanchard started the Wall of Warmth project in 2017 to collect winter coats for residents and over nine years it has grown to nine community walls donating about 8,000 to 9,000 coats each year—gaining strong local support. This year will be her final role as she steps back to let the Hall Foundation take over—while she focuses on enhancing the award-winning Gem State Classic Pro Rodeo. East Idaho News
- ➤ The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints launched its global 'Light the World Giving Machine' initiative on Wednesday and local kiosks will let residents support charities at no extra cost. The machines will first operate in Chubbuck tomorrow at 11 a.m.—then in Rexburg from December 1 to 14 and at Grand Teton Mall in Idaho Falls from December 15 to January 1—providing several chances for giving. - ➤ The Idaho community rallied to support Jessica Owen after her husband and 15-year-old son died on October 15 from a hornet attack while vacationing in Southeast Asia—Bonners Ferry residents launched a GoFundMe that raised nearly $1,787 to help cover travel and funeral expenses as the family navigates this tragedy. - ➤ Eastern Idaho Public Health is offering free flu vaccine clinics for uninsured and underinsured residents at several locations in eastern Idaho this month. The clinics, which aim to reduce the impact of a severe flu season as shown by CDC studies, will run from November 17th in Driggs and Rigby to November 25th in Challis—officials stress that vaccination can lessen illness severity.
