Good morning, Idaho Falls. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 23rd of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Idaho Falls worked with the Farmer’s Market and Downtown Development to kick off its annual tree lighting and holiday fair at Broadway Plaza — the event brightened Memorial Drive with booths, treats, and a lit water tower. Thousands enjoyed horse-drawn trolley rides and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus — marking a festive start to the season.  KXPI
  • Idaho Falls edtech company Stukent donated 100 turkeys to Community Food Basket ahead of Thanksgiving as the organization faced a critical food shortage—officials said the birds, rerouted from a Utah warehouse, will be given to local families.  East Idaho News
  • Snake River Animal Shelter in Idaho Falls received a $10,000 grant from Petco Love to support its veterinary program and care for local animals in need. The funding helped treat Shadow, a seven-year-old German Shepherd with health issues — shelter officials said more pets will receive treatment in the coming months.  East Idaho News

HEALTH NEWS

  • On November 22, the Bonneville County Coroner’s Office warned the community about the risks of Kratom after investigating six related deaths in the past 18 months — four caused solely by high mitragynine levels. The office urged those using Kratom to seek help for addiction or pain management before more deaths occur — stressing that natural remedies are not always safe.  East Idaho News
  • Hundreds rallied on the Broadway Bridge in Idaho Falls on Saturday, November 22 to oppose federal cuts to peer support behavioral health services. Several locals carried signs and signed a petition urging officials to restore funding so that patients can get the help they need.  East Idaho News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local children aged 8 to 13 will compete in a free Hoop Shoot competition hosted by Elks Lodge #1087 on Dec. 6, with registration starting at 8:45 a.m. Winners will advance to a statewide contest for a chance to join the national championship—an opportunity that recalls last year when two local girls reached the state level.  East Idaho News
