  • Family First Dental in Rexburg is launching its 1,000 Smiles Project toy drive today to support needy families during the holiday season—each donor can get up to 10 entries with five winners eligible for a year of free dental care. The drive runs until December 19 and awards up to $5,000 in dental work, excluding cosmetic procedures.  East Idaho News
  • On Saturday night, hundreds of residents gathered downtown for the annual tree lighting and night market hosted by the Downtown Development Corporation with the Idaho Falls Farmer’s Market where they bought baked goods, hot chocolate and gifts before Black Friday and Christmas. Free horse-drawn trolley rides ran from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. — Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived on a fire truck to greet children and light up a festive water tower.  East Idaho News
  • Registration for the Third Annual UTV Holiday Light Parade and Stones KIA Firework Show is now open for Friday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. in Idaho Falls—participants can sign up by paying a $10 fee to join up to 400 riders on a new scenic route that starts and ends at Freeman Park, with proceeds benefiting the Community Food Basket and two 10-minute fireworks shows for spectators.  East Idaho News

  • Idaho Ballet Theatre will perform The Nutcracker next month at Colonial Theater with shows on Dec. 11, 12 and 13 at 7 p.m. and a matinee on Dec. 13 at 2 p.m.—tickets cost $18 for the matinee and $22 for the evening shows. A Nutcracker Tea Party will be held on Dec. 13 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Willard Arts Center with ticket proceeds supporting scholarships for students.  East Idaho News
  • An episode of 'It’s Worth Mentioning' looked at early explorer Jim Bridger who traveled across the Pacific Northwest and settled the Salt Lake Valley before church members came, but later had a falling out with leader Brigham Young. Bill Markley, who wrote a new book on Bridger, also talked about his rough early life and his possible role in leaving mountaineer Hugh Glass after a bear attack — details that show a complicated past.  East Idaho News

  • Magellan of Idaho will cut Medicaid mental health services, including peer support specialists and mobile treatment teams, on Dec. 1 as part of efforts to reduce state spending. Mental health providers warn that these cuts — aimed at balancing a budget shortfall — may lead to more critical incidents and higher costs for hospitals and jails.  East Idaho News
