  • Idaho Falls YMCA is hosting a Christmas Tree fundraiser that helps lower scholarship costs for local families—families can pick out a tree until December 19th or until trees run out.  KXPI
  • Southeast Idaho's Jewish community will host the Fourth Annual Community Chanukah Celebration at 5:00 p.m. on December 14 at the Shilo Inn on Lindsay Blvd in Idaho Falls — the family-friendly event will feature traditional songs, festive treats, and a Grand Menorah Lighting Ceremony.  KXPI
  • A local Secret Santa is giving $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season—East Idaho News elves will deliver a new gift each day until year's end. The Peterson family, whose partially built home was damaged by high winds last year, will benefit from the donation as they work to rebuild their dream home.  East Idaho News
  • Idaho Falls’ only used bookstore hosted Cider Monday — offering 15% off used books and free cider to give local shoppers a warm, relaxed alternative to online buying. Owner Amanda Poitevin said the event, which started in New Hampshire, will continue in future years to support the local economy.  KXPI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Idaho Falls organist Cory Whittier will perform his 25th recital at the historic Tabernacle in Salt Lake City on Dec. 13 at noon. The half-hour Advent-themed program — featuring his arrangements of Come, Come, Ye Saints, Shenandoah and Joy to the World — will offer a unique showcase of his musical talent.  East Idaho News
  • Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band will perform today at Thunder Ridge High School at 7:30 p.m. as they play a set of festive Christmas songs and highlight his new song on Spotify.  KXPI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a temporary suspension, the federal government approved Idaho's plan to build a network of electric vehicle charging stations along highways — a working group will meet soon to plan the rollout.  KPVI
  • Idaho Falls started work today to replace the bridge at 65th North between 5th West and 5th East over the Idaho Canal — the wider design will better serve pedestrians and cyclists as crews work, and the closure is expected to last until April based on the weather.  KPVI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medicare beneficiaries must register for advantage plans by December 7th while those using Your Health Idaho for ACA coverage must complete their applications by December 15th—experts recommend using a licensed broker to help avoid mistakes.  KXPI
  • A domestic elk that escaped from an eastern Idaho captive facility and was killed by a hunter has tested negative for chronic wasting disease, state officials said. They noted that the escape is extremely rare and the incident is under investigation, though the hunter was not cited.  East Idaho News
