COMMUNITY NEWS

  • RUPERT — The Idaho Community Foundation launched the Minidoka County Foundation to support local projects in recreation, education, health and business across the county. The foundation set up two funds—a legacy endowment that will distribute grants in 2027 once it reaches $50,000 and a non-endowment fund offering next-year grant distribution—with contributors recognized as founders.  KIVI-TV
  • On Dec. 7, 1941, J. Mark Hoff and Rudolph Nelson landed their L-2 Grasshopper at the Idaho Falls Airport during a heavy snowstorm—resulting in a flipped plane yet leaving them uninjured; this incident marked the start of Hoff’s lasting impact in both aviation and farming, a legacy carried on by his son Bob who now runs Aeromark and maintains a family hangar on their local farm. The family continues to honor its history through annual events that highlight their contributions to local aviation and agriculture.  East Idaho News
  • Law enforcement agencies across Bonneville County are preparing for the annual Shop with a Cop event—kids chosen through local referrals will enjoy a breakfast at Eagles Lodge on Saturday before a parade of cop cars drives them to Target where Santa will visit. A fundraiser is taking place today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Outback Steakhouse with a $15 build-your-own-burger bar to support the event.  East Idaho News
  • Local owners Zac and Amy Martin of Pick Me Up Drinks launched the Roll for Kindness campaign last month using dice to choose acts of kindness and to donate community funds for school lunches—aiming to raise $25,000 by Christmas. They said that if the goal is met, Zac will shave his beard on a live video—showing their strong commitment to giving back.  East Idaho News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On December 2, 2025, gas prices in Idaho fell as AAA reported an average of $3.23 per gallon, four cents lower than the previous week (the national average had reached $3), and experts said an oversupply in oil could push prices further down this winter.  KPVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Shoshone-Bannock Junior/Senior High School is closed today because its heating system is not working properly—no classes will be held.  KPVI
  • Idaho State University signed two new 5-year partnerships with Waseda University in Japan and Lord of Sipan University in Peru. The agreements will boost faculty and student exchanges — and expand applied research as part of the university's global outreach.  KPVI
  • Idaho Falls will host the first National Civics Bee in May, inviting middle school students in grades six through eight to submit essays by Feb. 3 for a chance to compete at Melaleuca Global Headquarters. The Chamber of Commerce and Melaleuca partnered with national sponsors including Daniels Fund and Carnegie Corporation—one finalist will then advance to the national championship in Washington, D.C.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Trails Association is launching its annual membership drive today and will run it through the end of the year (memberships start at $30 per year) to rally hikers, bikers, and public land advocates for trail preservation. The drive aims to expand its community of outdoor enthusiasts to help protect Idaho's trail network.  KPVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On November 5, four large TRISO fuel canisters were delivered to INL’s Transient Reactor Test Facility—marking a big step for Project Pele. The mobile microreactor, designed to produce up to five megawatts of power for military bases, will launch in the future as further tests and adjustments are made.  East Idaho News
