- ➤ Lieutenant Nathan Kaas, 48, a veteran of more than 20 years in the California Sheriff's Office, was killed in a hunting accident in Caribou-Targhee National Forest when his friend accidentally discharged a rifle — a Help A Hero fundraiser on behalf of his family raised $11,590 of an $80,000 goal as of Thursday.
