Troopers, administrators, police officers, deputies and families gathered for a ribbon-cutting Wednesday morning to open District 6's new building, which has been in the planning stages for nearly 30 years.
The nearly $17 million facility has about 24,000 square feet of workspace. It puts 26 troopers and eight detectives under one roof.
“The detectives are having to drive, or we meet somewhere. So the efficiencies that are gained by putting everybody in one building you can't even calculate them.”
ISP Director Colonel Bill Gardiner
This is the last ISP facility to be built statewide, and Gardiner put it this way: "I like to say they saved the best for last."
Troopers outnumber detectives 26 to 8 at the new office
